Friday Randomness: Jasmine Star and Joey McIntyre

Friday Randomness: Jasmine Star and Joey McIntyre

Today is the day!  OMG!! I am so nervous and giddy I feel like I’m going to see New Kids on the Block…I’m ready to rock out some bangs and a side ponytail.  I wonder if Joey McIntyre is still cute? Anyway TODAY I am going to theFix in New York City.  I have been following Jasmine Star for 4 years and everyday her blog is like Calgon and takes me away.  I really truly admire her, she’s not afraid to be herself, she’s not afraid to take risks, her photography style is stunning and she is just an amazing person.  She’s who I want to be like when I grow up   She has given me the courage to get into photographer, stick with it and to not give up on finding myself artistically.   It’s funny when you follow other people’s blogs {{and I follow several}} how you form this

Guest Blogger – Creating a Roy Lichtenstein

Guest Blogger - Creating a Roy Lichtenstein

Today I have the honor of introducing my first guest blogger and best friend Heather! Heather is one of my right hand ladies and shares the same artistic passion that I have. She is a creative mastermind, an incredible Mom, blogger extraordinaire and now a pop art diva. Heather has been working on her photoshop skills and this photo shows how far she has come, it’s so cool! Awesome art Heather! Looking good Birdlady! And now….Heather Whenever I see Roy Lichtenstein pop art I always smile and think of my dear friend Birdie. Okay, her real name isn’t Birdie but it’s what I lovingly call her. She’s tweet and has an odd obsession with bread, so Birdie fits. Anyway… as I was saying, my dear friend loves Lichtenstein’s work. And who can blame her? With comic book graphics and humor what’s not to like? So recently, I came across a

Click it up a notch

Click it up a notch

One of my daily reads is Click it up a Notch.  She has a great feature on her blog called “What did you learn”  where you can post an image, send her a link and ask her readers to critique you.  So this post is really for that reason.    Critique away… In this session I learned to slow down.  I know that is so basic but when photographing kids it’s a hard balance to take the time and get the settings you want and to keep shooting and not miss anything.  I sometimes struggle with “can I fix this later” but I am really working towards getting things right in camera.  As soon as this adorable little girl hit the grown she started running.  I arrived at the location early set my setting for the light and thought I was good to go but I also made the challenge

Vegas

Vegas

It’s Vegas baby!  I’m lucky to have a job that sends me to incredible photography conventions.  In February I went to Vegas for WPPI, one of the largest photography conventions in the US.  It’s great to see what’s new in the industry and to be around creative people.  I met so many ROCK STAR photographers that I envy, got to talk shop, share ideas and network with people in an industry that I love.  Also while I was there I picked up a new lens!  I really didn’t get to do much shooting but here are just a few shots that I took with my new 50mm 1.8.

Photo Fifty Two – The signs of New York

Photo Fifty Two - The signs of New York

New York is a marketing dream, there are thousands of marketing messages EVERYWHERE  My background is in marketing (shout out to IUP, my alma mater)  so when I see all these messages I think about them a little differently.  I’m always thinking…who are they talking too?  Who are they trying to reach by placing their message here?  It fun to see how creative some of these companies are at getting your attention.  I thought it would be fun to see what messages stood out to me as I was taking pictures, so here they are   This is a long post but there were so many that caught my attention. I would love to know what kind of peep you get for a quater These carts are everywhere, someone in NYC is getting rich off nuts. Love the colors in this billboard one day whopper bar….I’ll be back You don’t

Photo Fifty – New York City Part 1

Photo Fifty - New York City Part 1

This past weekend I had an awesome class in NYC with Nikon.   I have always loved to learn and take classes, life is all about continuous improvement.  After this weekend’s class I will never think of photography the same.  There is so much more that I can do with my work and can’t wait to get there.  I had so many “ah ha moments” and good affirmation that I am heading in the right direction.  It was really chilly in the city but had a great time shooting.  New York has something fantastic everywhere you look, you could walk the same block every day for a week straight and still find something new each time.  I love the energy in New York City, there is no place like it in the world.  Here are some images that I took but I have lots more to share, let’s call this New

Dave and I went to New York City on Saturday for Photo Plus and we had a great time checking out new products and technology. I walked up to the Sony booth and Me Rah Koh was up next to talk, after Matthew Jordon Smith…OMG.  I have been following Me Rah’s blog for over 3 years and am such a big fan. She is one of the first blogs I have ever RSS to and I love her photography tips, images, photo recipes and stories. She has been such an inspiration to me and I’m so glad I got to meet her. I totally had a celebrity moment…lol
