Quiet vs Too Quiet!
Do YOU know the difference??
If you are a parent, chances are you DO! But if not, let me break it down for you…
Quiet kids = GOOD
Silent kids = TROUBLE!!!
When kids are playing quietly, you should be thankful.
VERY thankful. Don’t do anything to ruin it. Don’t pick up your phone. Don’t try to read a book and definitely DON’T try to go the bathroom. These are kid-triggers. Attempt any of these and the sweet child playing quietly with their blocks will be gone. You will lose them forever. OKAY, not forever… but trust me… they probably won’t be back for awhile! They are going to need a drink, sing you a song they just made up, or ask you to itch their sock… YES, itch their sock!!!! Kids are weird!!
So when your kid is playing quietly it’s best to just stay put. Try not to move, blink, or breath for that matter. Just enjoy the moment. You are probably going to sneeze and ruin it in a matter of minutes, so just try to soak up every ounce of that precious quiet time.
When kids are playing TOO quietly, you should be scared.
VERY scared! It can only mean one thing… TROUBLE!!!
See, the thing is, when kids are silent… they are usually plotting. Either plotting or already giving Scruffy a hair cut! Kids are smart. They know that when they are being quiet you are probably holding your breath on the couch trying not to ruin the moment. But don’t be fooled… when they are TOO quiet, they are most likely up to something.
In MY house when my kids are TOO quiet it usually means….
A mess is being made…
Someone is planning their escape…
The toilet paper roll is empty…
and NOPE, they don’t grow out of that. TPing the house is fun at any age…
They are touching something they shouldn’t be…
Climbing up to reach something…
Drawing on something they shouldn’t be…
like the walls…
which she DID clean up…
But wasn’t happy about…
or the furniture…
which she tried to hide from…
or themselves…
Or making themselves “booty-ful” with mommy’s makeup…
…. which was totally MY fault! I should have known that putting my mascara in my makeup bag on top of my dresser inside my room was not a safe place. What was I thinking?????
OHHHHH………
But HEY! There is some good news!!!!
I DID forget to mention that there IS an exception to the “too quiet rule”.
There is ONE way you are safe…
and one way only…
I know I’m not the only parent whose heart drops once I realize I haven’t heard a peep out of my kids in a few minutes. When that dreaded moment hits. Your stomach flips and you aren’t even sure what room your little darling is in. You envision your little angel cutting up the money you left on the table or putting stickers all over your brand new TV.
Come on, I know you know what I’m talking about!!
Wait a second…..
Now that I think about it, I can only place ONE of my children at this very moment! I better get going and check on Monster. My brand new white curtains are way toooooo tempting. Although I have taken away all her crayons and markers, you never know if she’s smuggled any or gotten a hold of some lipstick!
YEP! You just NEVER know!!!!!! 🙂
Have a nice quiet day! Just not TOO quiet!
xx,
Heather
