Every August I find myself doing the exact same thing.
The night before school starts, I’m searching Pinterest or Google for a cute first day of school sign to print before the morning chaos begins. Sometimes I remember a week ahead of time. Sometimes it’s while everyone is still asleep and I’m hoping the printer has enough ink left.
This year I decided to save all of my Photo Besties the trouble.
I created a complete set of FREE PRINTABLE First Day of School Signs for the 2026–2027 school year, and I’d love for you to have them.
You’ll find signs for:
- Pre-K through 8th Grade
- Freshman
- Sophomore
- Junior
- Senior
Just download, print, and you’re ready to go.
But while we’re talking about first day of school pictures, can I give you one piece of advice?
Don’t stop after the “everyone smile by the front door” photo.
- Take one picture walking to the bus.
- One climbing into the car.
- One of the too-big backpack sitting by the door.
- One after school when they’re telling you about their day.
- Those little moments become part of the story too.
As I’ve shared in my Family Historian series this month, the annual milestones are important, but the memories in between are just as meaningful. Years from now, you’ll be amazed how much joy comes from an ordinary photo that captures what everyday life looked like.
Family Historian Tip
Before school starts, create an album on your phone called 2026–2027 School Year.
Every first day photo, concert, field trip, science fair, art project, sporting event, and ordinary Tuesday goes into that one album.
When June rolls around, you’ll already have an entire school year organized without even thinking about it. It’s one of the simplest habits I know, and future you will be so thankful you started.
xo, Tiff
I hope these signs make your first day just a little easier. Happy first day of school, Pals!
