I hope you are enjoyed Tiff’s review of Ireland as much as I did.  Today I thought I would share one of my favorite photographs to take while I was in Ireland.  Oh yes, I was among the 31 I wasn’t missing that trip for anything!!

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of walking through Dublin Ireland one thing you are sure to notice are the gorgeous colored doors on the townhouses!  I had never seen anything quite like it and thought it was magnificent.  It made me want to come straight home and paint my own door some outlandish color… (which I didn’t, but I still contemplate every once in a while! Hmm.. if I could only get Jim on board with the idea 😉 )

I have read a few different explanations on why the Georgian doors of Dublin are colored in such a  fantastic way. My favorite version, while unlikely untrue,  goes something like this…

Irish women got tired of their drunken husbands going in the wrong doors after a night of drinking.  Rather then having their men go up the wrong stairs, into the wrong bedroom, with the wrong woman, they painted their doors different colors to help them find the correct home when belligerent.

See, not necessarily true but it is an entertaining idea, isn’t it?  Especially since those Irishmen are known for their drinking habits!

Although I may not know exactly why the doors of Dublin are painted the way they are, I feel blessed to have seen them and admire their beauty with my own eyes!

If you are ever lucky enough to find yourself  in Dublin, you’ll see exactly what I mean.  Those doors give brilliance and beauty to the city!!  Enjoy them and don’t forget to photograph them.  They are too special not to!
