Last year we captured over 50 new babies and I could not be more in love with the art of capturing newborns. It’s so inspiring to collaborate with parents and capture a session that compliments their style and celebrates their new love. This week we are talking about all the parts of the Appletini Photography process, newborn booking and everything that is included. Happy Newborn Week!

What I love most about this work is how rewarding it is. Getting a newborn into these sleepy poses so that I can capture their little close up takes a lot of patience but is rewarded with these adorable images. I love getting a newborn into the perfect sleepy pose and styling them in beautiful props to capture all those fresh little rolls and sweet squishy skin. What I also love about creating newborn art is that each session gives me a new opportunity to mix up my props, incorporate new props from the parents and create a vision for the session that reflect the family’s style.

I thought the best way to end Newborn Week would be with my top favorite images from 2018. I was wrong! HOLY MOLY, it was hard to pick but it was great to look back at the art that was created and to brainstorm new ideas for 2019. HONESTLY – I COULDN’T PICK and the attempt to “pick” turned into to big of a project. I had just pulled a few images that I knew had to be there and then starting working backwards through my files and had WAY TOO MANY. So these are a few that I pulled from earlier in the year plus the last 2 months hahahaha. I’m not good at picking favorite – oh well!

Our newborn sessions include:

We Capture Three Poses
We include 3 sets of poses with our newborn sessions. First, we pose the baby on a beanbag using fabric and props to create a variety of adorable images. Then we pose the baby in 1-2 props. We have a selection of props available at the studio and are always happy to collaborate with parents on props that they bring. Lastly, we end with family images that includes up to 6 people – Mom, Dad and siblings, or Grandma and Grandpa if you like. We create a sleepy environment with a small heater, smoothing sounds and gentle movements, newborn sessions typically take 2 hours but can last a little longer if the baby is not ready to sleep. We always aim to create those sweet, sleepy poses that highlight the new life and size of the baby.

2 Milestone Sessions
Babies grow so fast in the first year and we love capturing the milestones along the way. All newborn sessions include the session fee waived for 2 milestones ($200 value) within the first year of life. Milestones Sessions capture maternity, 7 months when the baby is sitting with those big toothless grins, or 1-year celebration which includes a cake for smashing. We also love to capture special moments that our parents like to remember like eating puffs, favorite outfits or 1^st birthday theme images. These sessions are smaller in nature with slightly smaller packages and the session focuses on the milestone we are celebrating and includes a small set of family images.

A set of 4×6 Prints
A set of 4×6 prints are included with ALL sessions, it’s just our thing. We know digitals are all the rave right now and YES those are available in our packages and a la carte but TRUST US having tangible images that you can flip through for years to come is so important. We hope that your will use those images to start your child’s 1^st photo album. We know they will cherish those images as they grow. These images can be passed down from generation to generation regardless of technology changes. We all love the digital era but you need both and we’re happy to take care of it for you!

Wall Art & Digital Packages
We want to see the images as much as you! Once your session is complete, you’ll see a 6-8 image sneak peek online within 48 hours. Products and digital files are sold separately and typically images are ready within 10-14 days. Tina (our customer service ALL STAR) will contact you to set an appointment to come to the studio for your images reveal. During this appointment you will view your images, see all of the wall art and heirloom product that we offer, select your package and collect your included 4×6 prints. All packages include digital files and something printed. We also offer a complete a la carte menu to create your own package.
