Happy Mother’s day to all you gorgeous Mommas out there! May you be celebrated like the superheroes you are!!!
4 years ago I spent my Mother’s days celebrating all the strong and wonderful Mothers in my life. My Grandmothers, My Mother-in-law, My friends Mothers, who I love like my own…. and most importantly my Mother!
My Mother; the woman I have to thank for my own SuperMOMness! I inherited every ounce from her. I can’t possibly speak eloquently enough how special she is, so I won’t even attempt it. I’ll just say this – I love that woman with all that I am.
Now that I am Mother myself, I look at the holiday in a completely different light. Sure, I will still celebrate the amazing women I mentioned above, but now I have another Mother to celebrate… ME!! I have spent the entire weekend reflecting on myself. Thinking about the Mother I’d like to be. The Mother I DON’T want to be. How to accept the fact that I will not be perfect. I will mess up. Make the wrong decisions. Yell when my Picasso draws on the walls. I have to come to terms with that. All us Mothers do. We are human.
This weekend, during my reflection I thought of some things that will put me on the path to becoming the Mommy I dream to be. The Mommy I want my girls to remember!
Here are some things I put on my ‘SuperMOM List’:
- I will love my girls unconditionally.
- I will apologize when I am wrong.
- I will explain.
- I will let them make mistakes.
- I will let them be angry.
- I will read to them.
- I will say no.
- I will say yes.
- I will let them play in the rain.
- I will play with them.
- I will take care of myself.
- I will teach acceptance and manners.
- I will laugh with them.
- I will be silly.
- I will be serious.
- I will let them wear their cape, tutu and Spiderman slippers shopping.
- I will tell them secrets.
- I will make blanket forts.
- I will take walks with them.
- I will learn from them.
- I will love their Daddy.
- I will surprise them.
- I will leave my cell phone at home.
- I will spend special one-on-one time with each.
- I will listen.
- I will encourage.
- I will let them stay up late.
- I will tell them stories.
- I will pay attention.
- I will love them unconditionally.
I bet your list looks different. What are your list toppers??
This year for Mother’s day my sweet husband asked me if there was anything special I would like. I thought about it. Sure, I love jewelry as much as the next girl, but ya know what? I feel like for Mother’s Day I NEVER need a present. My girls are the only gift I’ll ever need. Nothing will ever top them. So no sweetheart, there is nothing special I would like… I ALREADY HAVE THEM!!!
Today, I am starting a new Mother’s Day tradition. From this year on, I will be taking a photograph with my girls. I will cherish these images. They will be my Mother’s Day gift.
Here is today’s photograph…. MOTHER’S DAY – photo 1
Happy Mother’s Day to all you SuperMOMs out there. May your day be full of love and laughter!
ENJOY,
